Garden at the island's highest point

modern trädgårdsdesign med pool och poolhus

mission

The family owns a newly built summer house on an island in the Stockholm archipelago. The property is located at the top of the island with a view for miles. The plot currently consists of a large wooden deck with a pool and a little lawn and nature. The wooden deck is perceived as large and a little bare and the family wants to bring in more greenery and cozy seating without disturbing the view. Preferably a fireplace. By the guest cottage there is a steep weedy slope that would be nice to replace with something beautiful. It is important that the plantings are easy to maintain and blend in with the nature of the place. If possible, preferably something fruit-bearing/edible.

challenge

The property is located very inaccessible at the top of an island in the archipelago with a lot of exposed rock and a thin layer of soil.

Where: Österåker

Size: 2400 m2

Status: Design phase

solution

The wooden deck is broken up by larger planters with natural vegetation such as pines, grass and heather that create a sense of space. A sunken fireplace provides plenty of seating without disturbing the view. The steep slope is given a clear finish with larger stones from the site and rooted shrubs that bind the soil. A few well-placed trees including a cherry tree create space. The lawn is complemented by natural flowers as well as nearby nature.
