New facade and garden on the west coast

mission
On this property right by the sea on the west coast, the family wants to update the garden, which is partly damaged by the scorching sun and salty winds. The house also needs a refresh that will also reduce maintenance due to the salty winds. The family also wants an orangery facing the sea so that you get the feeling of sitting outside but at the same time is protected from the wind. There is a design challenge in that visitors have difficulty finding the entrance to the house. The family loves blue and the relaxing Cape Cod style. They would like to have hydrangeas and a magnolia tree. The garden should be stylish and easy to maintain with better lighting and a more leafy and beautiful walk down to the pier.
challenge
The property is extremely exposed to the sea, which is clearly visible on the facade, windows and garden plants. Many plants are brown on the lake side and lean heavily from strong winds. Partially thin soil layer with rocks in the open, deer. To preserve the beauty of an older, lakeside property and at the same time to match different styles after various renovations. To find a smart solution that does not involve major interventions in the environment but at the same time helps visitors find the entrance.

lösning
The house is given a new facade in cedar that both ties in with the Cape Cod style and is basically maintenance-free. The windows are replaced with modern ones with aluminum profiles without bars to maximize the view and tie in with the existing, modern glass railings. The veranda on the corner is glazed and creates a protected outdoor environment facing the sea with direct access to the pool area through a large sliding door. One of the stairs up to the entrance is angled so that you can clearly see the entrance to the house. The walkway up to the entrance is lined with trees and lighting to guide visitors in the right direction. The back of the house is sheltered from the wind with the help of shrubs and trees so that a protected environment is created for blue hydrangeas and a magnolia tree. Hard surfaces are softened with greenery and smaller trees that can handle the tough conditions and complement the beautiful view instead of competing. The lighting is low-key so as not to take focus away from the beautiful surroundings.
