Keep it simple

When I design plantings, I often think in combinations, preferably fewer plants but more of the same variety and preferably tone-on-tone. Sometimes it is contrasts in color and shape that create a magical combination. Sometimes a boring corner can become the most beautiful flower bed just by adding a matching plant to the dominant one and clearing out everything else. Plants that highlight and reinforce each other and are allowed to take their place often turn out to be very beautiful. A garden should ideally have some signature plants that recur throughout the garden, it creates a calm and natural impression without being boring.
