Agricultural property by Lake Mälaren
Mission
Create a garden for a newly built villa by architect Robert Sandell. The house is modern and is located in the countryside on a slope down towards Lake Mälaren. The project includes a new garden around the residential building as well as connecting the building with the beach, jetty and driveway. The family wanted areas for socializing near the house and the beach, a greenhouse and lots of edible food and preferably bright colors like orange.
Challenges
Vegetation that is beautiful, easy to care for and can withstand tough conditions from both the farm's and nature's animals. Link modern architecture with nature and a classic agricultural landscape. Beach protection and partially sunken land.
Solution
Several seating areas are placed around the house with space for the large family, including an outdoor kitchen and a pergola that provides coolness in the strong sun. A water mirror creates calm and a fence as protection against animals is hidden in the plantings, which go in warm tones. The dog yard is also given a greener setting. The entrance is clarified and the entrance is made more inviting. A new walkway down to the beach is created that passes greenhouses with a kitchen garden, an apple orchard and a hazel grove. Update of the beach area with a boat jetty, swimming pool and a larger fireplace.
