Natural pool with a bridge feeling
Mission
Create a garden for a newly built modern villa on an elevated property with a beautiful view of the entrance to Stockholm. The garden consists of wooden decking, lawn and a sunken pool as well as a hot tub and is perceived as rather bare and uncomfortable. The property lacks a driveway and storage space and is accessed via a steep staircase. The family wanted a new driveway, storage and to replace existing pools with a natural pool. They also wanted more leafy areas around the house, sun protection and a more inviting entrance. Natural flexibility is desired.
Challenges
The site has very large differences in height and consists mainly of blasted stone. The property is accessed via a long, steep staircase where it was unclear whether it was possible to make a car entrance and also have space for a storage room and car parking space. Very steep sections, blasted rock and lack of soil make planting a challenge.
Solution
After a professional measurement and discussions with the municipality, we find a solution for the new entrance and storage. The large wooden deck is broken up with plantings and a pergola that provides pleasant shade at the dining area. A natural pool with a bridge feel and access from the sauna replaces existing pools and creates a more natural environment. The parking space is hidden by a fence with a gate and the narrow passage to the entrance is given a natural feel with the help of birches and meadow plantings. A smaller grass area is saved as a playground for the children.
